Lara Croft’s legend begins

Alicia Vikander stars as the iconic video game character Lara Croft in the second trailer for Warner Bros.’ upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.

The clip dives into the origin story of Lara Croft and a hidden message she discovers from her missing father that sets her off on a harrowing journey on a remote island full of hidden tombs and lost treasure.

After her boat is destroyed and she’s washed ashore, Lara Croft comes into contact with a mercenary leader played by Walton Goggins who knew her father and who is looking to start a global genocide using the secrets found deep within the island.

“Leaving everything she knows behind, Lara goes in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous,” reads the synopsis.

It is set to arrive in theatres on March 16.

A new Muppets project

The Muppets have had a rough go of late. They came back strong with a 2011 movie, but that was followed by a lackluster Muppets Most Wanted sequel, and while The Muppets TV series was mostly pretty good, it failed to connect with audiences and didn’t last beyond one season.

It looks like they’re going to be given another shot, though, as the word is that some sort of Muppets reboot is being planned for the streaming service. It’s not clear if this will be a series or a movie, though the former is probably most likely.

Toy Story Land to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Toy Story Land is set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando on June 30.

The new section of the theme park is inspired by three animated Toy Story blockbusters that follow the beloved action figures and playthings who come to life when their owners — first Andy, then after he grows up, Bonnie — leave the room. Toy Story 4 is due in theatres next year.

“Here, guests can take a ride on Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster Andy has assembled from his Mega Coaster Play Kit and topped off with Slinky and Jessie,” the Disney Parks website said about its new addition.

“Families will also be able to take a spin on Alien Swirling Saucers, a galactic play set that Andy won from Pizza Planet. Here, adorable little green aliens swirl about in their flying saucers with guests in tow in their rocket ship toys, while The Claw hangs overhead.”
