Soomro warns STDC employees

THATTA, Jan 7: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has warned that the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation would be closed, if failed to promote tourism.

He said while speaking at a seminar, Tourism Potential and Strategy for its Promotion in Sindh, organized by the Sindh Culture and Tourism Department here at Keenjhar Lake on Monday.

He said the government was striving hard to protect and preserve the archaeological sites and cultural heritage of the country since its creation but so far had not achieved its task.

The governor said that due to small resources the private sector should be incorporated to achieve better results. He called upon the private entrepreneurs to cooperate in establishing hotels, motels and parks at the Keenjhar Resort and other historical sites of Sindh.

Mr Soomro disclosed that Karachi Defence Housing Authority, Pakistan Steel Mill and Naval authority were working out on plans to promote Karachi sea beaches to attract more visitors within the country and from abroad.

He said in this regard hunting grounds and breeding sites for animals and birds should be established on commercial basis.

He said the Pakistanis living abroad should be motivated to visit the historical sites.

The governor said there were many tourism centres in Sindh, but they ought to be improved.

He also stressed the need to inform students of the historical sites.

Later, while talking to newsmen, the governor revealed that a remodelling plan of the Keenjhar Lake had been prepared and the government had sought funds for the purpose.

He also disclosed that regulator gates of the channels would be renovated before the next Abkalani season.

He also visited a cultural exhibition organized by the STDC.
