HYDERABAD, May 16: Leaders of the Sindh People’s Youth Organisation have condemned the large-scale arrests of their activists in Mirpurkhas and raids on their homes. Speaking at a press conference at the local press club here on Monday, the central president of the organisation, Amjad Baloch, divisional president Ehsan Abro and others alleged that the activists of People’s Party Parliamentarians were being harassed and intimidated on the direct orders of the Sindh Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

They said that the youth organisation of the party was being made a special target. They said that a large number of people had gathered in Mirpurkhas to welcome the reinstated District Nazim of Mirpurkhas, which had greatly annoyed the Sindh chief minister.

They said that many people were arrested and a number of FIRs registered against the youth leaders whose houses were being raided.

The youth organisation leaders further said that heavy contingent of police has been deployed outside the courts to prevent the youth activists from seeking bails.

Amjad Baloch also released a list of arrested leaders and said that so far seven leaders have been released on bail while police was conducting raids on the houses of others whose list is lying with the DPO Mirpurkhas.

HDA: Councillors of the Al-Khidmat group have criticized the alleged inefficiency of the Hyderabad Development Authority.

In a joint statement issued here on Sunday, Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, Mohammad Saleem Khan, Dr Saifur Rehman, Abdul Rasheed Qureshi, Dr Abdul Aziz Gaddi and other councillors alleged that HDA officers had misappropriated millions of rupees on the pretext of supplying clean water to people.

They said with the advent of summer, the HDA and Hesco had created water and power crises in the city.

The councillors also accused the Sindh government of indifferent attitude.

Meanwhile, Hesco refuted allegations of Wasa officials that water supply to people had been suspended due to interruptions in power supply.

A spokesman for Hesco said double power connections had been installed at Wasa water pumping stations to ensure uninterrupted water supply.

He said Wasa was responsible for water supply and Hesco could not be blamed for it.
