LARKANA: Activists of nationalist parties and rights organisations took out a rally here on Monday under the banner of Sindh Progressive Committee (SPC) to register protest against ‘enforced disappearance’ of activists.
Amanullah Shaikh, president of Awami Jamhoori Party who headed SPC, Abdul Khalique Junejo, chairman of Jeay Sindh Mahaz, Bakshal Thalho, president of Awami Workers Party, and comrade Gulab Pirzado of Communist Party of Pakistan led the rally which culminated before the Larkana Press Club.
The leaders condemned the practice of raiding houses of their workers, whisking them away to undisclosed places and holding them incommunicado. In some cases, even their books were taken away, they said.
They said that such state policy would generate extremist aspirations in masses. The judiciary which talked ceaselessly of ending injustice in the country was perhaps unable to see violation of human rights taking place in the shape of ‘enforced disappearances’, they said.
The workers of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz led by Athar Qureshi also demonstrated outside the press club against disappearance of party workers Kashif Soomro, Sufi Hamid and raids on the houses of Azizur Rehman Shaikh, Adnan Bhatti and others.
They condemned the arrests and called for stopping the raids, disclosing whereabouts of missing persons and releasing them immediately.
