PESHAWAR: Provincial Election Commissioner Pir Maqbool Ahmed has said that persons with any physical disability will be allowed to cast their votes through postal ballot. He urged political parties, media and civil society organisations to play their role in facilitating participation of the physically challenged people in the electoral process.

Speaking at the introductory meeting of gender and disability electoral working group at provincial election commission here on Thursday, he said that significance of participation of women and special persons in the electoral process could not be ignored. He added that it was the duty of all the segments of the society to cast votes.

The meeting was also attended by MIS Director Haider Ali and Local Government Director Raham Karim.

The provincial election commissioner said that special persons, who were unable to walk or travel, could cast their votes in the next elections through postal ballot under Election Act, 2017. He said that all the required facilities would be made available at the polling stations for the special persons.

Mr Ahmed said that the voter lists were displayed at the display centres from March 26 for the people. He urged people to take advantage of the opportunity and check their names in the lists. He said that the people, who wanted to bring any change in their registration of votes, could submit their requests for the purpose.
