College’s sports gala concludes

SAHIWAL: A two-day 75th annual sports gala ended at the Oval Ground of the Government Postgraduate College, Sahiwal, on Friday.

Hundreds of students, their parents and players were present on both days at the sports festival whose theme was ‘promoting peace through healthy competition’.

Although female students attended the sports gala both day but they did not participate in any event.

Muhammad Islam Khan was declared the best athlete of the event with 24 points. The old college staff race was won by Ghulam Farid.

The gala kicked off with the traditional Ravi jhoomar. The event saw a 110-metre hurdle race, 5,000 metre race, javelin throw, pole vault, 100X4 dog race, hammer throw, triple jump, high jump, discus throw, 200, 400, 800 and 1,500 metres race, cycle race, musical chair, tug of war, bag race, staff race, staff children race and long jump.

In all, 300 sportsmen participated in the events.

Muhammad Saleem won the javelin throw, Muhammad Faraza the triple jump, Muhammad Islam the hurdles race, Sajjad Ahmed the 5,000 metres race, the second year class the rally race, Khalid Javed Sheri the musical chair game, tug of war the college sports board, and Prof Umair Tariq the staff race.

Malik Nadeem Kamran, provincial minister for planning and development, distributed prizes, shields and cups to winners.

He also inaugurated a water filtration plant on the college premises.
