LAHORE: Power distribution companies may review the ongoing loadshedding policy for high loss feeders as it is annoying the consumers paying monthly bills regularly.

Discos including the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) are currently implementing a schedule of two to six hours of outages in urban and rural areas on high loss feeders.

In Lesco alone, there are 486 feeders facing loss due to electricity theft, non-payment of bills, low recovery etc. These feeders include over 200 in Lahore and the remaining in Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Okara.

“The loadshedding on high loss feeders is a policy matter. Similarly, zero loadshedding on the feeders having no losses is also a part of the policy. But keeping in view the problems of consumers, who are neither defaulter nor involved in the electricity theft, Discos may reassess the loadshedding schedule.

“The factor of demand and supply would also be considered while reviewing status of the feeders with losses,” an official source told Dawn on Friday.

He said there were chances of minimising the duration of loadshedding especially on those feeders having no considerable losses. Loadshedding on the feeders with high losses may be increased, the official added.
