FAISALABAD: People from different walks of life including teachers, students and civil society on Saturday staged separate protest demonstrations on the second consecutive day against what they said police failure to arrest the killer(s) of a female student of Government College University Faisalabad.
On Sunday last, a student of MA English was abducted and her body was recovered from a canal in Dijkot on Wednesday.
Police claimed to have taken four suspects into custody but couldn’t find any clue. Carrying banners and placards, the students first staged a protest rally inside the university and after taking a round of different departments gathered at Chenab Chowk just outside the university.
They raised slogans against the police and demanded arrest of the suspect(s) involved in rape and murder of the girl.
Members of the civil society also staged a demonstration in Jaranwala and demanded early arrest of the suspect(s).
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, led by its deputy secretary general Farrukh Habib and Nadeem Aftab Sindhu, visited the residence of the girl and demanded that the chief justice of Pakistan take suo motu notice of the incident.
The PTI has also formed a team of lawyers to extend legal assistance to the bereaved family.
