LAHORE: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has installed 65 new tubewells and replaced the machinery of 105 other for an uninterrupted water supply in the summer season, says Wasa Director Sheikh Muhammad Akram.
He told Dawn on Saturday Wasa had improved the capacity of 105 tubewells with the funds of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. It installed 45 new tubewells with a cost of Rs586 million under the Annual Development Programme. Another 18 have been installed under the Lahore development package.
“Likewise some tubewells were installed under the Prime Minister’s Programme of Sustainable Development Goals,” he added.
The official said with the installation of new tubewells, the number of Wasa-operated tubewells had reached 576. Of them, 200 also run on generators.
“Hopefully, this summer will be comfortable for the citizens in terms of water supply,” he saod.
OPENED: Nabha Road was reopened for traffic on Saturday after engineers completed the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project work there. According to project steering committee chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Nabha Road intersection would also be opened for traffic in 10 days. “On average, project’s 86.20 per cent of the work has been completed. The Chinese company has also deployed additional labour of 400 workers on laying of track from station No-1 to 10,” he said at a meeting of the committee on Saturday.
