PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has approved setting up a landfill over a 600 kanals of land in the Shamshatu locality on the outskirts of the capital city.

A statement issued here on Tuesday said that the area where the landfill would be set up was situated about 31 kilometres from the city.

It said that about 2,200 kanals of barren land would be acquired for the project, which also included setting up of a treatment plant at 600 kanals of land.

The statement said that Mr Khattak issued the directives while chairing a meeting regarding selection of the landfill. He directed the officials to immediately remove the place from the limits of the proposed Peshawar Model Town and impose section 4 to acquire this land.

Mr Khattak ordered the officials to take emergency steps to ensure setting up of the dumping ground and the recycling plant.
