BAHAWALPUR: Police on Wednesday registered a case against seven people who allegedly shaved off the head of a deaf-mute woman out of vengeance at Ghauspur’s Basti Bhatti the other day.

Taking notice of delay in registration of a case, District Police Officer Mustansar Feroze suspended Ahmedpur East Saddar SHO Ijaz Ahmed Khan from service.

DPO’s PRO Umar Saleem said police instituted a case under sections 354, 355, 337(v) and 34 of PPC against complainant Razia Bibi’s brother Khalil Ahmed, his wife Faizan Bibi, a sister-in-law and other relatives including Ms Rukhsana, Ms Maqsoodan Bibi and Zahoor Ahmed.

Razia Bibi alleged that all these relatives in her absence shaved off the head of Safia Bibi over family disputes.

VILLAGE JURY: The Punjab government has taken notice of the verdict of a seven-member village jury, traditionally called panchayat, for threatening a man with murder and abduction of his daughter if he fails to marry off his 19-year-old daughter to an infant in Yazman tehsil.

The Head Rajkan police registered a case under Section 506 of the PPC on the complaint of Muhammad Khan, a resident of 140/DB. Mr Khan alleged that in August 2017, his relatives Gul Khan, Juma Khan, Akbar Khan, Shair Khan and three others had approached him and announced the decision of a jury that Akbar’s infant son Halim Khan would be married off to his daughter. The man refused to accept it.

Punjab government’s spokesman Malik Ahmad Khan in an interview with a private TV channel assured that the government would protect the lives of both father and daughter and arrest the suspects.

He said many such incidents had taken place across the province and the government had taken appropriate action against those involved in these.
