GOLD COAST: Pakistan’s experienced shooter Major Amir Iqbal finished at number five position in the gun double trap event here on Wednesday which was fine show indeed keeping in view that some of the world’s top shooters including world number one and two and former CW Games gold medallists as well as Asian Games gold medallists are also taking part.
In the boxing event Pakistan’s hope were shattered when Syed Mohammad Asif lost the quarter-final to Reecze Mcfadden of Scotland 5-0.
Mcfadden edged past Asif in all three rounds with 10-9, 10-9 and 10-9 points, finishing on overall points tally with scores of 29-27.
In the men’s 52kg weight category Awais Ali Khan of Pakistan lost 5-0 to Ato Plodzicki Faoagali of Samoa in the quarter-final.
But Pakistan’s Mahoor Shehzad beat Isle of Man’s Chris Merrit 21-14, 21-10 in the badminton women’s singles. However, her compatriot Irfan Bhatti lost to Australia’s Anthony Joey 2-0 in the men’s badminton singles.
So far hosts Australia with 52 gold, 39 silver and 42 bronze — a total of 133 medals — leads the medals table. They are followed by England (75 medals)including 24 gold medals, 30 silver and 21 bronze medal, and third-placed India with 24 medals, including 12 gold medals, 4 silver medal and 8 bronze medals.
