KOHAT: The district administration and civil society members held an awareness walk with a motto of ‘clean, green and colourful Kohat’ on Rawalpindi Road here on Wednesday.

Led by deputy commissioner Khalid Ilyas and district nazim Naseem Afridi, a number of school students and civil society members participated in the walk. Mr Ilyas claimed that they would make Kohat a model district of the province by expanding bridges, roads and parks.

Talking to mediapersons, he said that the bridge between the DC office and bypass road was a pilot project and after its success more such schemes would be undertaken in other parts of the district.

He said that soon the Rawalpindi Road would have fully developed green belt, paintings on walls, etc. Similarly, dustbins would also be kept on the roadside. He appealed to the people to keep their surroundings clean.

ARRESTED: Police here have arrested 188 smugglers, including women, during the current month, said a statement issued on Wednesday.

It said that during the operation the police seized 80 kilogrammes of hashish, six kilogrammes of heroin and two kilogrammes of opium. The suspects were presented in the court and sent to the prison.

Meanwhile, district police officer Abbas Majeed Marwat directed the officials to remove all illegal bus stands and encroachments from the highways and bazaars for ensuring smooth flow of traffic.

During his visit of the city police station, he asked DSP Raza Khan and SHO Fayyaz Khan to promote public-friendly policing and solve the people’s problems in the police stations.
