SWABI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak are scheduled to visit Swabi district on April 19 to participate in various public meetings and open different projects as part of the party’s election campaign for the upcoming polls.

KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar told Dawn here on Wednesday that the PTI chairman would inaugurate the University of Swabi building during his visit.

The university was established in 2012 by Awami National Party in the building of an elementary college near Swabi interchange.

However, Mr Qaisar said it was PTI-led provincial government which had acquired over 1,400 kanals of land for construction of the new campus of the varsity.

“A full-fledged university always needs a proper building, hostels for students, and residential areas for the faculty,” he said, adding the PTI government had upgraded the Benazir Bhutto University Peshawar campus into Women University Swabi in Kotha area.

Another project Imran Khan will inaugurate is the sports complex in Baja village, he maintained.

Mr Qaisar said both Mr Imran and Mr Khattak would address a public gathering at the playground of government high school, Swabi, adding PTI leaders and workers, especially the youth, were expected to attend the meeting in large number.

The assembly speaker said Imran was expected to inaugurate some more PTI-initiated projects.

Meanwhile, ANP central president Asfandyar Wali Khan will address a public meeting at government high school, Swabi, on Thursday (today).

Ameer Rehman, the party’s local chapter president and the district nazim, said all arrangements for the show had been completed. He said it would be a huge public meeting and leaders and workers from across the district would participate in large number.
