ISLAMABAD: A task force set up by Wafaqi Mohtasib Syed Tahir Shahbaz will study the Kasur tragedy and identify the systemic failures resulting in the rape and murder of the young child and recommend corrective measures.

The National Commissioner for Children of Wafaqi Mohtasib, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi had organised the first meeting of the task force recently which was chaired by former Senator S.M. Zafar, says a press release issued on Monday.

Presiding over the meeting, S.M. Zafar said the committee is vested with the mandate to redress the systemic failures resulting in child abuse in Kasur.

He said the committee would conduct in depth study of the situation responsible for sexual abuse of children in Kasur and identify institutional deficiencies for their rectifications.

He said the task force would monitor the progress in the matter.

According to the press release, earlier, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi briefed the committee/task force members in detail on the aims and objectives of the task force.

He presented a plan of action devised for the protection and welfare of the children. The committee members unanimously approved the plan and assured their support for achieving the desired result.

The additional I.G Punjab also assured the committee of full support and cooperation of the Punjab police department in the matter.

Besides Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, the meeting was attended by Ms Shaheen Atiq-ur-Rehman, Former Minister, Punjab and Vice Chairperson, Bunyad Foundation, Mr. Abubakar Khudabakhsh, Addl. I.G. (Investigation), Punjab and several other officers.
