KOHAT: The local administration has failed to find a place for slaughtering animals since the construction of a new slaughterhouse began a fortnight ago to the inconvenience of both the butchers and the general public.

The butchers complained that they had been driven out from Kalo Banda area by the people where a temporary place had been allotted to them for slaughtering animals by the administration till the completion of the new slaughterhouse in four to five months.

On Sunday, additional deputy commissioner Sahibaza Najeeb ordered registration of cases against people of Kalo Banda for suspending slaughtering of animals at the administration’s specified place and imposed fines on the butchers for slaughtering animals in front of the cantonment police station, but had to withdraw the orders on Monday following protests by the locals.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Najeeb said it was binding on the people of Kalo Banda to accept the decision of the administration. But, the protest forced the administration to find a new place for the purpose.

The TMA officials said for the time being they had proposed a place for slaughtering animals on Peshawar bypass road.

The administration had constructed a makeshift slaughterhouse in Kalo Bana area far from the city, but due to the failure of the tehsil municipal administration and WSSC officials to remove the leftovers of slaughtered animals, the local people forcibly stopped the slaughtering of cattle in the residential area.

A spokesman for WSSC said they had removed the animal waste from Kalo Banda area following orders of the administration. He said that the slaughterhouse had been established in a rented house.

The president of butcher’s association has called for an undisputed place for setting up slaughterhouse.

WORKSHOP: Speakers at a training workshop for farmers on Monday asked them to take advantage of the scheme of small machinery now available on rent for increasing production of various crops.

The agriculture department organised the workshop, where agriculture officials from Karak, Hangu and Kohat, farmers and office-bearers of model farms services were in attendance.

The field assistants and officers also participated in it.

District agriculture officer, Kohat, Zahirullah Khattak shed light on the use of modern technology in getting maximum production.

He said the machinery was available at all the agriculture offices on rent.
