In pictures: Shiny new Islamabad International Airport gets final touches ahead of inauguration
The airport will now open on May 3.

After going through a number of hiccups and delays, the inauguration of the newly constructed Islamabad International Airport is in sight with a test flight having landed on its runway on April 7.
In its initial phase, the airport will be capable of handling nine million passengers and 50,000 tonnes of cargo every year. After its expansion, it would be able to serve up to 25m passengers a year by 2025, authorities say.
Ahead of its awaited inauguration — which was supposed to take place on April 20 but was moved to May 3 at the eleventh hour — the new and shiny airport is getting final touches so that it is fully operational by next month.

And It is my request to the Federal Government that kindly do not change this name to any Personality. In Pakistan it is a tradition to name everything on some personalities. I am tired of watching this practice. Keep it Islamabad International Airport. This airport belong to the federal capital and should be named on the city only.

MashaAllah looks excellent. Some suggestions for airport administration, in a car parking please post A, B, C or 1, 2, 3 on the light polls, it will be much easier to search your car. In your article, one guy is painting within the hall. This type of jobs should be done with the "Scissor Lifts" thats much easier and safe. If we can add more languages on display signs. e.g French and Arabic.

@Khan
I agree with you what you had commented however most of the time it’s the ignorant users litter and ruin public properties…
I believe there’d be a section at every public property where they give lesson to the offenders on how to use these facilities and keep them neat and clean (as a part of punishment).

I hope they hire fresh well trained staff for the management of the airport. Transferring the staff from the airport will not be able to manage it considering their previous record. After all it is the serving staff which makes the service great not the place itself.

Now we need stability in the country so that foreigners start coming to Pakistan to enjoy the natural beauty and our history by landing at this new and modern airport. The airport has to generate revenues and to be used at full potential. Inshallah the country will reach to that point soon.

Congratulations on Islamabad International Airport inauguration to be held on May 2. Though the Supreme Court must order investigation as to why is the opening date several years behind and the cost doubled? It will point to political interference and corruption. Those officials found "guilty" must be held accountable and punished. Passengers will be happy to see the new airport, especially foreigners arriving for the first time. We wish everyone Bon Voyage.

Excellent look and decoration of new airport.I hope it will be a great addition to Pakistan assest.
Hopefully, other big cities will also get new airports keeping in view of local population rise.
Few suggestions:
There should be a parking fee.
Luggage trolleies with coin insertion should be implemented so that people use those facilities responsibly.
There should be free internet on airport.
Public transport like buses and idealy train should reach directly to airport.

One problem that Pakistani airports face is lack of machinery for enforcing the designed system. So, for example, there are separate security check belts for ladies/families as can be seen in the pics, but will it be followed? Who will ensure that they are followed? Recent personal encounters at BBIA where people do not care about immigration booth for ladies/senior citizens and at new Faisalabad airport where people smoke in the departure lounge without interception are worrisome.

I do not see those here. Another service they can concentrate on Baggage handling, Ground Transportation and Parking. That should be outclass at this facility along with counters for help and general information. wish you the Best!

Instead of providing basic services to its people, our politicians are making travel fancy for few. This entire project has no meaning for ordinary Pakistanis whose tax money was spent on this pointless airport. There is hardly any air traffic, only 15 airlines operate shuttling few million passengers. Plain madness.

New airport is great but overhauling of air fleet (PIA) is much important than a newly built airport. The services of PIA is rediculous and seating are disgusting. No wonder passengers prefer using other airlines. Therefore PIA need a complete review of its services and overhauling of internal seating and entertainment facilities.

Hello sir Congratulation ,
i am very happy to see the new beautiful Airport of Islamabad MashahAllah ,and i hop passenger will take care of most expensive property and i will suggest that government should charge 100 pak rupees (ONE DOLLER) for baggage trolley then passenger will more take care for baggage trolley to return at proper place and Please refer to parking area regulation signage and fee schedules. The parking fee is usually paid by using a ticket machine. The machine issues a ticket indicating the time reserved for parking, and visiter must place the ticket under the windshield so that it is clearly visible. If you do not pay the parking fee, he may be fined.
i hope you will consider my proposal

This is really an optimistic and good news for all Pakistanis to see the growth and progress in infrastructure and building a positive image not only for us but also, genuinely, for all foreign visitors to Pakistan.
The key is maintenance, which is always a lack in Pakistan. We build and develop, but does not maintain properly. This has done with Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad airports.
After certain time, it will show same odd and ugly impression with dirt, dust and deterioration if not maintained regularly and appropriately. It is our responsibility as Nation to help authorities as well to keep it clean and use appropriately considering our own asset.
I do REQUEST to authorities, to please keep focus on maintenance and tidiness over the period after it's first impression at Inauguration.

And please do something about the corruption at airport. Second I wish they could reduce passport control to one time. This will make a better flow for the passengers and save staff and money. I am fed up with showing my passport for control (in Lahore) at the entrance, police, army, customs, at the counter, then comes the passport control, once again another control, then even one more and finally one again at the gate. This is to much!
Regarding corruption: if you pay you don't even have to stand in the check-in queue the staff with brown or white uniforms will take you to a counter they have setup and make everything easy for you. I forgot to mention the VIP culture. The so called VIP get extra service as soon as they arrive...I could write several pages but will that help? I think the answer is NO!

Airport looks as per international standards but this shiny airport easily going to be ruined by the rude airport staff and governmental protocol for important personalities. There is no courtesy for women, elderly, and for disabled on any of Pakistani airports. To compete with socialized courtiers entire airport staff including security agencies need extensive education and training. In these days things are remembered by services and not by shiny buildings. Bad and rude services can easily eclipse this Brand New Airport.
