LAHORE: A large number of people from various walks of life came to pay last respects to Madeeha Gauhar, the pioneer of parallel theatre in Pakistan, at her funeral at her residence on Thursday.

The funeral prayer was offered on the lawns of her residence where Ajoka staged its first play ‘Jaloos’ back in 1984. A wooden plaque was placed there carrying Madeeha Guahar’s photographs and articles written on her. It was covered with floral wreaths, brought by the mourners.

The day was filled with tears and emotional scenes. Late Gauhar’s colleagues, contemporaries and fans were gathered in the veranda near the lawn to catch the last glimpse of her where the coffin was placed.

Madeeha Gauhar was laid to rest at Cavalry Ground graveyard. According to Shahid Mehmood Nadeem, Gauhar’s husband, there will be no qul gathering, however, a reference will be held at Alhamra Art Centre.
