HYDERABAD, May 23: The founding chairman of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), Professor Liaquat Aziz, and former secretary general Professor Mohammad Siddique Unnar have appealed to the MQM chief to instruct the Sindh governor, and offices of the party not to interfere in the matters of the board examinations and work relating to examinations was assigned only on the basis of merit and seniority.
In a fax massage sent to the MQM chief, Professor Aziz and Professor Unnar said that a perception existed in the minds of Sindhi people that the Sindh governor, who was the controlling authority of the educational boards, was protecting the interests of one ethnic group.
They said that the majority of important posts in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas boards of education were occupied by members of one ethnic group, most of whom were retired officers of education department.
They complained that MQM office-bearers in these places were issuing orders on issues pertaining to the education boards.
The professors alleged that in the ongoing intermediate examinations, invigilators, external superintendent and other staff had been appointed at the instance of MQM, majority of whom belong to one ethnic group.
They said this had generated a lot of unrest among the college teachers and which could prove harmful to the unity of the permanent residents of the Sindh province. They appealed to the MQM chief to intervene in the matter.
