TAXILA: A woman allegedly attacked her husband with an axe, critically injuring him, for contracting a second marriage without her consent in the limits of the Bassal police station on Wednesday.

Gilgit resident Syed Alam Khan had moved to Bassal to harvest wheat as an agriculture labourer, and married another woman while he was there.

He was asleep in his room Wednesday morning when he was allegedly attacked by his first wife, who was overpowered and handed over to the police, leaving Mr Khan critically injured.

The Bassal police have registered a case against the suspect.

Separately, Attock police on Wednesday have claimed to arrest a proclaimed offender wanted in a murder case.

According to the police, Mianwali resident Naseer Ahmed was booked in a case registered against him in 2005 and declared a proclaimed offender by the local court.
