ABBOTTABAD: The Abbottabad University of Science and Technology has waived the fee, including the hostel charges, of physically-challenged students, and decided that special arrangements would be made for their easy movement in the varsity campus.

The decision was taken at the fourth meeting of the varsity’s syndicate chaired by Prof Iftikhar Ahmed, the vice-chancellor.

The varsity registrar presented the annual budget to the tune of Rs75.146 million, which was approved. The meeting appreciated the efforts of the vice chancellor in bringing the university out of financial crisis.

It was informed that two floors of the new academic block would be handed over to university before the next semester and final drawings and approval was being granted for two additional academic and one administration block.

The meeting was told that two more buses were included in the varsity’s transport pool which will be further increased after availability of funds.

Earlier, the vice chancellor briefed the participants about the ongoing development projects of the university and said special efforts were being made to improve educational activities by holding seminars and workshops. He said a number of MOUs were being signed with foreign universities to enhance capabilities of students.

SUBSTANDARD MILK SEIZED: The Food Safety and Halal Food Authority and the livestock department officials in a joint operation conducted in Muslim Abad locality seized a large quantity of substandard milk here the other day.

During checking, the officials found 50 per cent mixing of water in the milk. In few cases, pesticides were also found in the containers and warning was issued to milk sellers to maintain quality, or face action.
