• Street children have equal rights, says President Mamnoon

Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday met a group of female students from different public schools managed by a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The delegation met the army chief at the General Headquarters, where Gen Bajwa played a game of chess with one of the visiting students.

The army chief lauded the visiting students' abilities in other sports, including cricket and football, and encouraged the students to equip themselves with knowledge of science, information technology as well as other "new disciplines".

Quoting the army chief, Inter-Services Public Relations said: "Pakistan is blessed with the most talented and vibrant youth, which is our real defence."

The NGO, Zindagi Trust, is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation that strives to improve the quality of public education across Pakistan. The organisation was founded by singer Shahzad Roy, who is also the Trust's president.

President Mamnoon Hussain met players of street child football team going to Russia to participate in Street Child Football World Cup and said, “Street children are a valuable part of our society, they have equal rights over all facilities of life.”

He emphasised that promotion of sports is imperative for establishing a healthy and progressive society and all efforts in this direction are highly commendable, Radio Pakistan reported.

He advised the players to focus on education in addition to sports as it leads the nation towards the path of development and prosperity.
