KASUR: A man in connivance with his son allegedly strangled his daughter to death in the name of honour on Wednesday at Beigpur village, in the limits of Khudian police station.

According to police, Farzana Bibi (20) of Beigpur village wanted to marry Ahmed of the same village.

When the girl’s father, Hakim Ali and his son Amjad came to know about Farzana’s intention, they opposed her.

Some weeks back, Farzana allegedly eloped with Ahmed to contract court marriage. Farzana’s father raised the issue in a panchayat (sort of a jury comprising village notables). The panchayat decided that the girl should be returned to her parents.

As per the panchayat verdict, Farzana returned home and started living with her parents.

However, on Tuesday night, Hakim and Amjad allegedly strangled Farzana while she was asleep.

Police claimed to have arrested Amjad and sent the body to the district headquarters hospital for autopsy.

Police are looking into the matter.

SHOT DEAD: An alleged robber was shot dead by “his accomplice” during a robbery bid at Chah Ror Singh village, in the limits of Sheikhum police station on Wednesday.

According to police, two unidentified armed robbers entered the house of a farmer, Muhammad Sarwar.

One of the robbers remained on the roof of the house, while the other held the family at gunpoint.

When the male family members offered resistance and tried to overpower the robber, his accomplice opened fire, the police said.

As a result, the robber died on the spot, while his accomplice managed to escape, the police claimed.

According to police, a tattoo on an arm of the killed suspect reads ‘Naveed Qamar’.

The police shifted the body to hospital for autopsy.
