KARACHI: Pakistani quartet stormed into the knockout round of the ongoing 34th Asian Snooker Championship on completion of the league matches at Tabriz, Iran, on Wednesday.

Two of the four cueists including three-time national champion Moham­mad Asif and former Asian junior No 2 Mohammad Majid Ali advanced into the last-24 round while former national champion Moham­mad Bilal and Babar Masih made it to the last-16 (pre quarter-finals).

Asif, meanwhile, completed his league engagements on winning note when he overcomes Iran’s Ehsan Heydari in the fully stretched battle 4-3. He was home 47-87, 56-65, 72-0, 13-69, 76-9, 65-19, 64-46.

According to results made available here, only Bilal returned victorious in all five group matches. Asif and Babar won four and lost one apiece in their respective groups whlle Majid ended up with three wins and two defeats.
