LARKANA: Mercury shot up to 49 degrees Celsius in Larkana and its adjoining areas on Friday forcing people to remain indoors to avoid heatstroke. Electricity loadshedding of long duration in the areas already hit by water shortage added to the miseries of people.

According to the local weathermen, the humidity (or amount of moisture in the air) was recorded at 22 per cent.

Most thoroughfares, markets, bazaars and commercial areas wore a deserted look and vehicular traffic remained mostly thin from dawn to dusk in the district.
