LAHORE: While the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) election commissioner completed the elections process of Punjab and Sindh Hockey Associations on Saturday, while keeping pending the appeals of some district associations of Punjab, complaining about holding of unfair elections in their respective districts.

The elections of the Punjab Hockey Association were surprisingly held at the Garrison Cantonment here, most probably to stop the arrival of unwanted people.

Khawar Anwar Khwaja from Sialkot is elected as president while retired Lt Col Asif Naz Khokhar, the younger brother of PHF president retired Brig Sajjad Khokhar is elected as secretary of the provincial association. He belongs to the Lahore District Hockey Association.

Former Olympian Danish Kaleem from Sahiwal along with some four other districts had filed a complaint that the elections in their districts had been held quietly as no one was invited to participate.

Danish told Dawn that though the PHF election commissioner had appointed Imtiaz Gill to hear the complaints of the grieved districts officials, no such hearing was held by Imtiaz before holding the PHA elections.

The PHA elected the following persons in its body:

President: Khawar Anwar Khawaja. Senior Vice Presidents: Qamar Zia and M. Akhlaq Usmani. Vice Presidents: M. Rana Liaquat Ali Khan and Jam Mohammad Younis.

Secretary: Lt. Col. (retd) Asif Naz Khokhar. Associate Secretary: Rai Usman Akbar. Treasurer: Sheikh Haroon Saeed.

Executive Council: Asif Bajwa (former PHF secretary), Naveed Alam (currently working as PHF Development Director), Malik Shafqat, Dr. Atif Bashir, Dilawar Hussain, Qasim Khan, Babar Abdullah, Mian Zahid Iqbal, Ajmal Lodhi.

The house was elected by the votes cast by the recently-elected representatives of 32 districts, out of a total of 36, from the Punjab.

While two senior vice presidents were elected in the Punjab, not a single was elected in Sindh.

Sindh Hockey Association office-bearers:

President: Mohammad Yousuf.

Vice President: Qamar Ibrahim, Zulfiqar Ali Dahoot and Ejaz Ahmed Khokhar.

Secretary: Mohammad Ramzan Jamali.

Joint Secretary: Abdul Rasheed Mahar.

Treasurer: Mohsin Ali.

Executive Committee:

Abdul Rasool Jhanwari, Ghulam Hussain Baloch, Dr Shabbir Cheema Arifuddin and Wakeeluddin.
