HARIPUR: Two persons drowned, one in Bhutri Dam and the other in the barrage of Ghazi Barotha Power Project, here on Sunday, showing inability of the local administration to effectively enforce the ban it has slapped on bathing and swimming in the dams.

Police and witnesses said Shahzaib, 17, a resident of Kahal village, along with his friends went to bath in Bhutri Dam in the limits of Sera e Saleh police station.

They said Shahzaib jumped into the dam but did not get back to the surface.

His friends invited the attention of local divers who managed to fish him out after an effort of 30 minutes.

He was shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The second incident of drowning occurred in Ghazi tehsil where Malik Hamza, 19, of village Nartopa, went to the barrage of Ghazi Barotha Power Project with his friends to beat the heat.

He also met the same fate, and his body, according to police, was also fished out by the local divers.
