KARACHI: The Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh on Wednesday directed the director general of the Benazir Income Support Programme and others to appear on May 25 to explain the maladministration during distribution of wheat in Mithi.

The chief justice also called reports regarding non-availability of facilities at a basic health centre in Ghotki and non-provision of treatment to a child suffering from kidney disease in Sukkur.

Taking notice of the incidents on media reports, Justice Shaikh directed the provincial BISP DG, deputy commissioner and district food controller to appear in person on May 25 and file reports. He also sought a report from the district and sessions judge concerned.

The government had announced provision of free wheat to the deserving people of district Tharparkar, but owing to a shortage of staff at the food warehouse only a few women could get wheat bags while a number of others returned home empty-handed after waiting under the scorching sun for a major part of the day, it added.

The chief justice also call a report from the district and sessions judge of Ghotki within three days on a report about the non-availability of health facilities, including doctors, medicines and an ambulance, at the basic health centre in Ubauro, Ghotki, while the building was said to be in a dilapidated condition as repair work was not being carried out by the authorities concerned.

He also sought details from the district and sessions judge of Sukkur within three days on a report that a child, Khalid Hussain, had been suffering from kidney disease for the last five years and his poor parents could not afford the medical treatment and sought help from the government.
