LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday reiterated his commitment that the general election in the country would be held as per the schedule on July 25 in any case.

“No one should have any misconception about the timely election in the country,” said the chief justice while hearing a petition moved by the Awami Workers Party for the implementation of the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Advocate Bilal Hassan Minto represented the petitioner and argued that the court should pass appropriate directions to the ECP for strict implementation of its election code. A two-judge bench, including Justice Ijazul Ahsan, issued notice to the ECP on the petition till June 4. However, Chief Justice Nisar maintained that the court would not allow any delay in the upcoming general election.
