KARACHI: Booking for fresh currency notes has reached 2.3 million people and is close to the limit of the State Bank of Pakistan which is 2.7m, it said on Monday.

The SBP had launched an SMS service for issuance of fresh notes on May 31 for Eidul Fitr. Within a short span of four days, the SBP said, the service had attracted a booking of around 2.3m people.

The total booking limit of 2.7m customers was increased by 50 per cent this year as compared to 1.8m customer limit in 2017.

“The total capacity of this system is constrained by the number of customers that branches can accommodate on each day and the store of fresh notes available with SBP BSC which is also linked with the capacity to print,” it said.
