KOHAT: The police on Monday foiled attempts of smuggling 300 litres of homemade liquor from Darra Adamkhel to the southern parts and arrested four inter-district smugglers.

A statement issued here said the teams of Muhammad Riaz Shaheed and cantonment police, on the directives of the district police officer, carried out operations at Kohat tunnel toll plaza, remote border town of Shiekhan and the bypass road.

A car coming from Darra was stopped at Shiekhan, but the driver tried to speed away, however, after a little chase the vehicle was stopped and during search 60 liters of liquor were seized. The smugglers, Tahir Saleem of Garhi Risaladar and Aziz ur Rehman of Garhi Mawaz Khan, Kohat, were arrested.

The cantonment police raided a spot on the bypass road and recovered 60 litres of liquor from Ishtiaq Khan of Junglekhel.

In another incident, a police team stopped a passenger coaster coming from Darra at the toll plaza checkpost late Sunday night and during checking recovered 180 litres of homemade liquor packed in plastic drums. The carrier, Khalid Rasool, was arrested.

PROFITEERS FINED: The district administration registered cases against 21 profiteers and encroachers and penalised others on Monday.

A handout issued here said additional deputy commissioner, Sahibazada Najeebullah checked rates of various eatables in various bazaars and registered cases against 11 profiteers and ordered them to appear in the respective courts.
