ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Muslim League secretary general Dr Mohammad Amjad has claimed that APML president retired general Pervez Musharraf will return to Pakistan after Eidul Fitr.

Talking to journalists at an Iftar dinner here on Wednesday, he said Gen Musharraf would give the exact date of his return after the announcement of a decision by the Supreme Court on his appeal regarding disqualification.

“The former president will return even if his appeal is rejected. He will lead the party during elections. We will announce our candidates in a few days,” Dr Amjad said.

He said the APML core committee at its meeting held in Dubai on June 1 had decided that Gen Musharraf would contest elections from Chitral, Jhang, Gwadar and Karachi.

“Mr Musharraf has been disqualified for declaring a state of emergency on November 3, 2007. We have filed an appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court and hopefully we will get a favourable decision,” he said. Dr Amjad said that the APML wanted to become a part of the system through a political process and did not believe in any non-political process.

In reply to a question, he dispelled the rumours that Gen Musharraf would be the next president of Pakistan.

The APML leader said his party would make seat adjustments with its allied parties in the elections and it would announce its final candidates from all over the country.

“Our coalition doesn’t have a common election symbol. Therefore, we have decided to contest the polls on the basis of seat adjustments wherever we felt it necessary. Our allied parties will contest the elections on their own symbols,” he added. APML chief organiser Faqeer Hussain Bukhari was also present at the function.
