Dr Hasan Askari takes oath as Punjab caretaker CM

Professor Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi took oath as the Punjab caretaker chief minister in a ceremony held in Lahore on Friday.
Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana administered oath to Dr Askari, whose name for the provincial caretaker role was finalised by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Dr Askari is a renowned political scientist and military analyst, currently working as professor emeritus of political science at the Punjab University.
A former visiting professor of Pakistan Studies at the Columbia University from 1996 to 1999, Prof Askari has also served as Allama Iqbal Professor at Heidelberg University, Germany, from 1988 to 1991.
He has a number of publications, including more than 1,800 op-eds and comment pieces in domestic and international newspapers and magazines and has spent over 35 years teaching and supervising research at the post-graduate level. The books include ‘Military, State and Society in Pakistan’ and ‘The military and Politics in Pakistan: 1947 – 1997’.
The oath-taking ceremony of Balochistan caretaker CM Alauddin Marri is scheduled to take place at 5pm today.

Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi is the best choice among the names given to the ECP. Given his credentials, he will be of great service to the country. We have a caretaker CM who is highly educated and has an impeccable record as an individual along with respectable international exposure.

People of Pakistan not happy with this decision by ECP. People can think that something fishy going on inside.... PLM-N's defected supporters (those who likely to join to PTI) will be back again. If still fair Election will be there then PLM-N has chances to win. But PTI will bag more seats than 2013.

It is unfortunate that both PML-N and PTI failed to bring a consensus candidate in their stronghold both in Punjab and KPK. Therefore, after the selection of caretaker by ECP, no one has the right to raise objections on the caretaker CM, which is installed out of no choice, reflecting the failure of both parties.

Professor Askari is a great choice for CM Punjab. Some people are objecting to his comments on some of the PMLn actions.
Dr. Askari is a professor of political science and an analyst. If his comment goes against PMLn, it is because PMLn's action is wrong, not that Dr. Askari is prejudiced. He has made some comments against PTI also.
