ISLAMABAD: Acting President of Pakistan Sadiq Sanjrani on Sunday urged federal and provincial caretaker governments to facilitate the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure holding of free and fair elections in the country.

Talking to participants of an Iftar dinner at the presidency, he said the elections were necessary for continuity of democratic process.

All members of the caretaker federal cabinet, governors and caretaker chief ministers of all four provinces were present on the occasion. Issues related to upcoming general elections, challenges and arrangements were discussed at the occasion.

Mr Sanjrani also stressed that all the institutions should assist the caretaker governments and the ECP.

He said heads of political parties and candidates should follow rules and regulations announced by the ECP.

He said the Senate would play its role for the holding of free and fair elections.
