KHUZDAR: The Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) announced that they had formed an alliance on national and provincial assemblies’ seats from Khuzdar after successful negotiations on Sunday night.

BNP-Mengal chief Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal met Maulana Qamaruddin, the naib emir of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F), to discuss the elections and decided that they would contest together in Khuzdar.

Addressing a joint press conference, they said that while this alliance was just for Khuzdar, efforts were being made to form a similar alliance in other areas of the province. As per details of the alliance, the BNP-Mengal will contest the national assembly seat from Khuzdar along with the provincial assembly seat from Wadh. The MMA candidates will contest the provincial assembly seats from Khuzdar-Naal and Zehri-Mola constituencies.

According to leaders of the two parties, they had formed an alliance in the 2002 elections as well and had emerged victorious. “We have once again formed an alliance for the elections; it will hopefully prove to be successful,” they said. They added that the candidates and workers from both parties would be campaigning together.
