FAISALABAD: Sargodha Road police claim to have arrested a security guard who had shot dead a bus hostess on June 10, and obtained his four-day physical remand.

Mehwish Arshad was allegedly shot dead by Umer Daraz, who worked for the same travel company as her, for refusing his marriage proposal repeatedly.

Submitting an application to the police, Ramzana Kausar of Husainabad claimed she had gone to see her daughter Mehwish, 19, at her workplace where she saw Daraz grabbing the hand of Mehwish while she was returning to her hostel. She saw Daraz arguing with Mehwish after which he opened fire on her and fled from the scene.

Mehwish was shifted to a hospital in critical condition where she died.

Ramzana claimed Daraz wanted to marry Mehwish, but she had refused his proposal repeatedly.

A video of Daraz firing at Mehwish had gone viral on social media.

Caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi took notice of the incident and sought a report from Faisalabad police.

Police presented the suspect in before a district magistrate and obtained four-day physical remand. He would be produced before the court on June 22. The suspect had confessed to his crime before police, Dawn.com reported.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Mehwish was buried on Sunday in her village Chak 298-JB near Gojra.

Her mother Ramzana told reporters that her daughter was the only breadwinner of the family. She claimed that if Mehwish had received treatment immediately she could have survived. She also demanded inclusion of Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act in the first information report and the suspect be hanged publically.
