SUKKUR: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has said Umme Rubab Chandio is like his own daughter and he is directing Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh to decide the case of murder of her grandfather and uncles within two months.

Advocate Umme Rubab is granddaughter of Raees Karamullah Chandio, former chairman of union council Badai, who along with his two sons, Mukhtiar and Qabil, was gunned down in an attack on their house in Ahmed Colony in Mehar town on Jan 17 allegedly at the behest of Nawab Sardar Ahmed Chandio, chieftain of Chandio tribe. The triple murder case is in process in the antiterrorism court concerned.

The CJP said at a reception hosted in his honour by Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) Sukkur late on Friday night that all people associated with politics should respect returning officers who were part of judiciary and warned not to disgrace them or use derogatory words against them. In case there was a complaint against them, it might be sent to the judiciary, he said.

He said the Supreme Court took suo motu notice only of the cases which pertained to basic human rights and public interest because implementation of basic rights fell within the purview of apex and high courts under Article 184 (3). Therefore, nobody should think that he or she was being targeted by the court.

He said that Supreme Court intervened in healthcare sector to implement basic human rights in response to growing public complaints. Another important issue the apex court was handling was about Manchhar Lake which had been resolved after hectic efforts of Supreme Court-appointed commission on water quality and drainage in Sindh, he said.

The CJP said that he was trying his best to bring improvement in education sector and provide speedy justice to litigants. Judges alone were not responsible for bringing improvement in judiciary, he said.

SHC CJ Ahmed Ali Shaikh, president of SHCBA Sukkur Qurban Malano, senior judges of SHC, SC registrar, Sukkur commissioner, DIG, secretary of health, deputy commissioner, SSP and a large numbers of lawyers and notables attended the reception.

He said he believed education was the most important issue of society because nations attained progress and development only through eduction, which nurtured forward-looking and dynamic leadership and ensured an impartial judicial system.
