This is why they say you should always read before clicking yes, or in this case, stamping approval.

The returning officer (RO) who accepted former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's nomination papers for Murree's NA-57 constituency has been suspended for not noticing that the form had allegedly been tampered with, among other objections.

Justice Ibadul Rehman Lodhi, the chief of the appellate tribunal reviewing objections against nomination papers, severely chided the officer in question.

"You think you will ensure transparent elections? You haven't even read the nomination papers properly!" tribunal chief tells RO.

The RO sought to apologise for his slip-up, but the judge wouldn't have it and ordered the RO's suspension.

Only time will tell whether fortune favours the former PM wishing to stand from the city where he attended college.
