ISLAMABAD: A 21-year-old woman set herself on fire outside the house of a man who refused to marry her. She was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences’ (Pims) Burn Centre with burns to 85pc of her body.
According to the police, the woman had been living in Bari Imam with some relatives after the death of her parents. She had been in contact with a man of her age and over the weekend, she went to his house in G-8/4 to ask him if he will marry her.
The man reportedly replied that he did not have a job yet and could not afford a family. She then doused herself in petrol and set herself on fire.
The police said a case has been registered against the woman.
A Pims official said she was in stable condition but in cases like these, no one can be sure.
“Patients with 85pc burns do not usually survive,” he said.
