Leaders of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) have once again cast doubts on the interim set-up in Sindh, saying officials posted in the caretaker roles are not impartial.

Addressing a press conference, Pir Pagara Sibghatullah Shah claimed that officers who have been posted in Sindh for as long as 10 years have not been replaced ahead of the elections, adding that the caretaker set-up appears to have been established on a "quid pro quo basis".

Ex-NA speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza alleged that Sindh caretaker Chief Minister Fazal-ur-Rahman was "not neutral" and that the current IG of the province is "weak". She said corrupt officers are being appointed in Sindh.

"An election held amidst anarchy will be harmful for the country," Dr Fehmida said.

GDA secretary general Ayaz Latif Palijo claimed that former PPP ministers were running their election campaigns under police protocol.

He warned that the alliance would call for a strike if their demands are not met within 10 days. "GDA's concerns should be addressed, even if it means postponing the elections by a week or two," he added.

For its part, the PPP has termed the allegations by the alliance a step towards "running away from the elections".

Nisar Khuhro, president of PPP Sindh, meanwhile alleged that GDA wants to get its favourite ministers and officers appointed by pressurising the caretaker government.
