LAHORE: A Lahore High Court election tribunal on Monday set aside a decision of the returning officer and accepted nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for NA-95, Mianwali.

Advocate Babar Awan argued on behalf of Mr Khan before the tribunal comprising Justice Faisal Zaman.

He said the PTI chief disclosed his complete assets and other details but the returning officer rejected his papers on technical grounds.

He asked the tribunal to set aside the decision of the returning officer and allow his client to contest election from the Mianwali’s constituency.

The tribunal allowed the appeal and accepted the nomination papers of Imran Khan.

Another tribunal dismissed appeals against the candidature of Mr Khan from NA-131, Lahore.

Advocate Iftikhar Shahid of the PPP, Mudassar Chaudhry of the Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party and others had filed appeals on different charges, including non-disclosure of assets owned by his two sons.

The tribunal also dismissed appeals against the nomination papers of PTI’s candidate Aleem Khan from NA-129, Lahore.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and others filed the appeals accusing Aleem Khan of concealing his assets.
