KARACHI: The Awami Colony police in Korangi on Tuesday registered a case against around half a dozen people for allegedly beating two members of the transgender community in the area late on Monday night, the police said.

They added that around six to seven youths beat Khushi when she tried to prevent them from allegedly harassing another transgender person at an eatery.

According to the complaint lodged by Khushi, her colleague Rachna had gone to a restaurant in Korangi-4 at around midnight for a meal where six to seven persons allegedly harassed her.

In the statement before the police, Khushi stated that after receiving the information about the incident when she went there, the suspects started beating her too. As a result she sustained injuries.

The Awami Colony police have registered an FIR (231/2018) under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 337-A-1 (punishment of shajjah) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified suspects.

As per social media reports, Khushi and Rachna were attacked when they were coming from the Awami Colony police station after filing the harassment complaint.

The suspects were allegedly harassing them for the past many days.

On Monday night, the transgender community members decided to file the complaint against them.

Later, Khushi was discharged from the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre after first aid.
