KARACHI: Deputy Commissioner South Basketball Championship will be held in this city next month.

This was announced by Deputy Commissioner South Syed Salahuddin Ahmed on the occasion of the World Olympics Day here on Tuesday. He added that the sports committee in the south region will also be made active and he will ensure that regular sports activities are held throughout the year.

“Pakistan was at the pinnacle of sports in 1995 when it had four world titles in cricket, hockey, squash and snooker and I want to see our country scale the same heights in sports once again,” said Salahuddin.

Karachi Basketball Association’s president Ghulam Mohammad thanked deputy commissioner for his patronage and said that KBBA is known for staging regular activities and events for promotion of basketball in the city.

He added that currently a summer basketball camp is being held in Arambagh courts free of charge to encourage youngsters while an exhibition basketball match will be held on Thursday to celebrate World Olympics Day.

Also present on the occasion were deputy commissioners of three districts and other officials.
