Just a little over three per cent of all candidates were able to pass the Central Superior Services (CSS) examinations of 2017, while the top three positions were clinched by male candidates.
According to results declared by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) on Thursday, only 3.3pc students could secure the minimum passing marks.
Statistics show a total of 9,391 candidates appeared in the written examination of the year 2017; out of them only 312 managed to pass.
After viva voce 310 candidates, including 199 males and 111 females, finally qualified.
The 2017 result is a slight improvement over that of the previous year, when only 199 candidates (2.06pc) out of a total of 9,643 had cleared all rounds.

A press release stated that only 261 candidates have been recommended for appointments (155 male and 106 female) to posts in BS-17 out of all the qualified aspirants.
According to the results, the top three positions were bagged by male candidates — Muhammad Awaid Irshad (Punjab domicile) stood first, while Adeel Akbar (Punjab domicile) and Mohammad Murtaza (Sindh urban domicile) secured second and third positions, respectively. The top three positions of the last CSS exam were all taken by female candidates.
The results of the CSS exams have been facing decline for several years (until 2017), as 3.33pc students cleared the exam in 2014, 3.11pc in 2015 and 2.06pc in 2016.

Out of 310 passed candidates 261 have been confirmed for job placements so what about the rest of 49 remaining passed candidates?
The real mockery of this whole sham exercise is not the pass percentage of candidates but the inability of the system to even accommodated the candidates who have gone through this rigorous tests successfully.
A classic case of miscarriage of justice to say the least.

Could the government appoint the remaining candidates that were not offered posts at the provincial level and abolish the Public service exams as the candidates passing the CSS exams should be discouraged due to lack of posts at the federal level and accommodated at the provincial level. They deserve it.

Political.Parties whenever they came in power. Recruit their workers through.bypaasing Public Service Commission. So the incumbent's interest in.these competitive exams have waned.considerably
Now practically Civil.Service Commission.is paralyzed and no more effective as it was before for example during 1962 - 1974.
There are confirmed reports commission.always succumbs to.wishes of influentials of treasury party in Parliament. Merit is nowhere in Pakistan

It's a manifestation how poor our education system is! especially undergraduate education stays nowhere in Pakistan. Universities are Politicized. Many lectures at public universities hold that positions without appearing in the respective exams.

It's not the matter of how many passed the exams.
It's how they are serving or will serve this country.
Everyday we see very poor civil administration from prize control to law order or anything you name for the last 20 years.
Improve the service other wise this cream talent will deliver the same and got retirement in bps-22 :)

A very sad and unplayable state of affairs clearly showing failure of our institution of higher education, which as a matter of fact neither have the capability nor competence to produce graduates with general knowledge, comprehension power, reading or writing prowess. In essence these institutions are churning out unsuitable candidates unfit even for normal job market openings.The civil service exams are strictly based upon multiple quiz questions,looking very simple but unless one does not have in-depth knowledge of the subject, he is lost.Prevalent bureaucratic selective exams & interviews system in the subcontinent, is a legacy of the British times & has been in vogue with changes here or there, having mechanism of a strenuous training program for those selected in the public institutes, & later on for moving to higher grade, in the administrative staff college, Lahore.Our ministry of higher education needs to have a strict oversight & make the entire program suited to job market
