Private schools grab top positions in Peshawar SSC exam results

PESHAWAR: Private schools outclassed public sector educational institutions in the Secondary School Certificate annual examinations-2018 of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Peshawar, and grabbed all top positions, according to the results announced here on Thursday.

The students of the government high schools even could not find place in the list of overall top 20 position-holders though the government spends billions of rupees on education sector every year.

Seven of the top nine positions were grabbed by girl students of various private schools.

In the science group, Sarah Yousaf (Roll No 121921) clinched the top position by obtaining 1,062 marks of total 1,100 marks. She is student of Peshawar Model Girls High School-II.

Bakhtawar (Roll No 121918) and Tuba Gul (Roll No 121928) of the same school shared the second position with 1,060 marks, while Aneeba (Muskan, Roll No 121922) of the same school and Sunnia Shah (Roll No 125621) of semi-government University Model School stood joint third in the annual examination by obtaining 1,058 marks.

The results were announced at a ceremony attended by position-holders, their parents and the board officials. Caretaker Chief Minister retired Justice Dost Mohammad Khan was the chief guest. He congratulated the position holders.

According to the results, Linta Khan (Roll No 137122) of Kids School System got first position in the arts group by securing 958 marks, followed by Hussain Ullah (Roll No 191130) of Usmania Children Academy who got 939 marks.

Tania Jamal (Roll No 137775) of Forward Girls High School and Sajid Ullah (Roll No 191136) shared third position in the arts group. They secured 932 marks each.

A total of 58,770 students, including 143,321 girls, of science group appeared in the examinations of which 37,086 candidates passed the exams.

In humanities group, a total of 21,356 candidates appeared and 6,090 students were declared passed.

Speaking on the occasion, Dost Muhammad Khan stressed the need for the formation of authorised national commission for education including experts for preparation of unified syllabus for the whole country that could address the new age challenges.

He regretted that unlike past, the present teacher-student relations were based on commercial lines. The first position-holder was awarded Rs50,000, second 45,000 and third Rs40,000 cash prizes.

ABBOTTABAD BOARD: Girls snatched top three positions in the results of annual examinations of Secondary School Certificate of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Abbottabad. The result was announced on Thursday.

The first position was shared by Shehzeen Iftikhar of Islamic International Public School and College, Haripur, and Hafsa Khan of Jinnah Jamia Public School and College, Haripur, by securing 1,039 marks.

Urwa Mir of Peace Group of College, Abbottabad, secured the second position by securing 1,037 marks. Three female students shared the third position.

They included Alina Zahra and Hareem Khan of IIPSC, Haripur, and Mahum Mahfooz of Ummul Qura International School, Abbottabad, by getting 1,035 marks.

The girl students dominated the top 20 list as total 48 students shared the top 20 positions of which 38 were girls.
