Torrential monsoon rains lashed the city of Lahore before dawn on Tuesday, flooding streets and killing six people, as authorities struggled to restore normalcy in rain-affected areas.
Of the six who died in Lahore, four passed away due to electrocution while two others lost their lives after being buried under the debris of collapsed buildings.
A large sinkhole has also appeared on the Mall Road near DPO Chowk. It has filled with rainwater and it is feared that the water may affect the underground Orange Line Metro station nearby.
The destruction has been caused by heavy downpours that dumped 177 millimetres of rainwater on the city over the past 24 hours.

Three terms of PML-N and this is what people get. NO DRAINAGE SYSTEM that can handle rains. Thank you Shahbaz Sharif for focusing on metros while the common man still faces the same difficulties of life forever in Pakistan.

So much for Lahore being Paris in spite of using nearly 60% of Punjab budget on 12% of population after stealing close to 70%. Pity population of Lahore which live mostly low lying slum areas

As usual all this water will be wasted. No man made lakes or reservoirs and get ready for diseases.

And you are going to say Pakistan does not get enough water. Manage it so that drought and floods can be controlled.

177 MM downpour is not much, it is normal in Mumbai. The drainage system is not-existent

What a rain it was!
But to blame government totally is not justified. Such heavy rain in a topographically flat area can cause urban flooding.

@Noman Rasheed
They have just looted this city and it has lost all it's beauty over the years.
Back in British Raj Lahore used to be a major hub for trades and businesses and it could have been one of the most successful cities of modern era but unfortunately that's not the case now.

I am 56 years old today but I am not seeing any relief for any national political or civic issue that was present when i was just a child. Same old issues are getting repeated year over year without any solutions.

I will not government for this, how many Lahoris know the plastic that we over use on daily basis chokes these drains? No matter how big drainage system you build, it can't withstand the garbage we create and throw into it!

This being the case after 17 cms of rain. What will happen if it rains like it typically does in tropical countries?
