As hard as a faction within the PML-N may be trying to rebrand itself for the new age (we feel you Maryam), it appears that everyone else in the party is still living in the stone-ages.
In a move that is not surprising at all, PML-N's candidate from Muzaffargarh Haroon Sultan has declared that is "haram" to vote for women. Conveniently, he faces opposition at the hands of PTI's Zehra Basit Sultan Bukhari.
As a political party, the PML-N has often faced backlash for its leaders making inappropriate remarks regarding women.
Be it Rana Sanaullah and his lewd comments about "where women in PTI rallies come from", or Khawaja Asif calling Shireen Mazari a "tractor trolly", it seems that the culture in the party is still highly misogynistic.
The question is, will anything change if Maryam takes on a more hands-on role in the party or is elected to a prominent post in the government after the upcoming election?
