LAHORE: The conviction of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz is a political decision at a time suitable only to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), says the Awami Workers Pakistan (AWP).

In a reaction to the accountability court verdict against the former prime minister on Friday, AWP leader Farooq Tariq alleged that a whole package had been designed to ensure election victory of the PTI.

“The package includes threatening the PML-N candidates to withdraw from the electoral race and or forcing them to stand as independent candidates.”

Mr Tariq said the maximum sentencing won’t stop the corrupt practices, on the contrary, it had created a lot of doubts about the independence of the judiciary.

“It seems that the establishment is ensuring that Imran Khan wins the election. This sentencing is part of the plan to rig the election before it takes place,” he concluded.
