THATTA, June 2: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that installation of windmills for power generation will bring prosperity and create job opportunities for people along 350 kilometres coastline of Sindh. He was speaking at a gathering at Pir Dino Shah village after an aerial view of the coast on Thursday.

A briefing was given to the chief minister by the director-general of the Alternate Energy Board, Brig Mohammad Ali.

Mr Arbab said the government would acquire low productive lands from local farmers to install scattered windmills for generating about 100 megawatt electricity.

The chief minister said the project would create opportunities of livelihood, invite foreign investments and promote trade in the area.

He said the Sindh Coastal Development Authority had prepared feasibility of installation of an edible oil factory and a fish harbour.

He said the government had received willingness letters of 22 foreign investors to invest in the area and for this purpose the government was trying to create a congenial atmosphere in the province.

He said foreign experts had declared Sindh coastline a comparatively better place in the context of velocity of wind.

Apart from this project, a feasibility report is being prepared for installation of desalination plants.

Criticizing the Benazir Bhutto era, he said the coastline would have never been benefited if the Keti Bunder port and a mega power plant had been installed.
