QUETTA: Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) president Jam Kamal Khan Alyani on Sunday said that if his party was voted to power in the province it would work for establishment of peace, launch development projects and introduce good governance.

“BAP has been formed to safeguard the interests of the people of Balochistan,” he said while talking to media personnel at the Pasni Press Club.

Since the formation of the party BAP leaders had been saying that they would work for creating job opportunities, providing all basic facilities and establishing peace in Balochistan, he said, adding that the party wanted to give a better lifestyle to the people of this province.

Mr Alyani said that the port city of Gwadar had now become very important for the economic development of the country because of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The CPEC, he said, would begin a new era of development in Pakistan, especially in Balochistan.

He criticised previous governments for their failure in solving the water shortage and other problems of Gwadar and said that after coming into power BAP would resolve all issues of the port city.

He claimed that successive provincial governments in Balochistan had remained unsuccessful in developing a good working relationship with governments in Islamabad. A BAP government in Balochistan would improve relations with the centre without compromising on the rights of the people of this province, he added.

He lauded the role of media in creating awareness among the people of the country about their rights and the importance of elections. But, he added, the journalist community and media groups should discourage ‘yellow journalism’ in the country.

Former member of the Balochistan Assembly Prince Ahmed Ali, BAP’s candidate on the provincial assembly’s constituency PB-51 (Gwadar) Yaqoob Bizenjo and other party leaders were present on the occasion.
